Can your redactions be reversed?

A black box drawn over text often leaves the text in the file. Upload a PDF you have already redacted and see what someone who receives it could still recover. Free. No account.

Nothing is stored

Your file is analyzed in memory and discarded when the response is sent. It is not saved to storage, a database or disk, and its contents are not logged. Recovered text is sent back only to you. Each connection gets 20 free checks per day.

What the check looks for

  • Text still in the text layer under black boxes, filled shapes or images
  • Redaction marks that were drawn but never applied
  • Hidden text: invisible render mode, white on white, tiny, or outside the page
  • OCR text layers behind scanned pages
  • Comments, annotations and form fields
  • Document metadata and XMP
  • Attachments and embedded files
  • Earlier versions kept by incremental saves, including text removed since

What the check does not cover

  • Encrypted PDFs. Their content cannot be read without the password.
  • Text in images. The check does not run OCR, so a photo or scan of a name is not flagged.
  • Whether the visible pages still show something sensitive. A person still has to read them.
  • Files over 25 MB or 100 pages, and files too complex to finish within a few seconds.

Found something?

Redacting.ai removes the selected text from the output PDF instead of covering it, and strips metadata and other hidden content from the exported file. The first completed document is free.
